Three distinctive voices come together for The Art of Protest, an intimate evening of songs, stories, and music that refuses to remain silent. Performing in the round, Bill Valenti, Darka Dusty, and Patrick Tovatt will trade songs and perspectives, exploring the power of music to question, challenge, unite, and inspire change. Join us at Singacoustic on Thursday, October 22 at 7:00 PM for a timely night of courage, conscience, and connection.

Bill Valenti, is a Portland, Oregon songwriter who believes in the power of the protest song to inspire political activism.  He launched the Art of the Protest Song project in 2012, and has produced 30 performances around the country, focused on political, social, economic and environmental issues.  Bill’s topical songwriting is influenced by the massive popular uprisings in the US, Europe and Asia he witnessed in the 1960s and 70s.  The pen is mightier than the sword, and a song is mightier still.

Darka Dusty, Stebivka is a first-generation Ukrainian-American and a lifelong musician and singer. Growing up Ukrainian in America means Darka’s been wired for political resistance and fighting for the truth. Performing with Darka will be her partner-in-time Miri Stebivka. Together, they’ve been on a long, creative journey as musicians and photographers, having just celebrated 30 years together.

Patrick Tovatt, after a fifty-year career in the theatre, television and film, as actor, director and writer, retired and left NYC for Oregon to hang with his son Daniel. Now he scratches the creative itch by writing poems, essays and songs. He and his dear Valerie float on the Columbia River, feed the ducks and grow tomatoes.
