Singacoustic presents guitarist Ben Graves and vocalist Anandi for an evening of music from the heart. Join us for music, food and the delightful atmosphere of Portland’s newest music venue, Singacoustic. They play Sunday, July 26th, 6pm-8pm

Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, Ben has studied, shared the stage, and toured with national and internationally known artists including Rick Zunigar (Stevie Wonder), Tony Dumas, Leon Russell, Dick Berk and Charles McPherson. While living in Los Angeles, he studied classical guitar with Scott Tennant (of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet), Evan Hirschelman, and Robert Mayeur.  Ben has performed in music festivals all over the U.S., including the Reno Jazz Festival and Portland Jazz Festival. He performs with local jazz greats including Ron Steen, Bobby Torres, Dave Captein and Darrell Grant. Ben holds a BA in Jazz Studies from Portland State University and currently resides in Portland, keeping a busy schedule with groups like Bossa PDX, the Ben Graves Trio and many others.

Born in Los Angeles to a singer/songwriter and a jazz drummer, Portland native Anandi ended up in Nova Scotia where she studied vocal jazz performance at St. Francis Xavier University. After a stint working at Rounder Records in Boston and singing her original songs around Boston and New York City she moved back to Portland after bearing ‘live’ witness to the 9/11 attacks in downtown New York City. Returning to jazz and singing in the style inspired by the likes of Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, and Carmen McCrae, she has become a well-respected singer, performing at venues like the legendary Jimmy Mack’s, The 1905, Jack London Revue and the PDX Jazz Festival. She has recorded eight albums and has played and recorded with many local luminaries including Randy Porter, Greg Goebel, Mike Horsfall, Dave Captein, John Stowell & Ron Steen.  Audiences enjoy Anandi’s full spectrum approach to jazz, often adding “scat” and vocalese to her performance.

Some things people are saying about Anandi:

“…a versatile voice, both smoky and sweet” -Portland Tribune

“…lyrical, lush yet uncluttered sound..” -Boston Herald

“Anandi has a knack for beautiful phrasing in her singing. Her overall warmth makes her an instant hit with audiences.” -Tom Grant
